On Sunday (June 25), Mountain Dew and the NBA tipped off their second iteration of Dew NBA 3x, an elite basketball competition including some of FIBA’s top 100 globally ranked players, who will compete in a six-city tour to qualify for the 2018 USA Basketball 3×3 national tournament. Los Angeles Clippers PG, Lou Williams stopped by Brooklyn Bridge Park to participate in festivities with fans and we got a chance to speak with him about the upcoming NBA season and Dew NBA 3x. Lou averaged 17.5 pts, 3.0 assist and 2.5 rebounds last season with the Houston Rockets.
How do you feel about the 3-on-3 Dew NBA games and what they’re doing for the youth?
Lou Williams: I think it’s great for the culture of basketball, especially, being in New York City where street-ball is so big and everybody just loves the summertime grind of hoops. For these guys to be out here and have the opportunity to compete for a little cash, a little 3-on-3, talk a little trash, I think it’s exciting.
Did the NBA Finals end the way you thought they would?
It’s no secret that Golden State put together a pretty dominant team and they were able to go out there and make a difference. So, no surprises there.
How are you planning on progressing your game for the next NBA season?
It’s always growth. Going into my 13th season you just try to work on the intangible things, work on the small things just to keep yourself sharp and go out there and compete as hard as I can.
Give me three players in the NBA to play with alongside yourself on a 3-on-3 team?
Give me Steph Curry, Give Me LeBron and I’ll be an alternate when somebody make a free-throw (Laughs).
