Something is brewing in Inglewood. The Los Angeles Clippers are taking a step closer to eventually one day have their own arena.
The Clippers announced on Tuesday that they have purchased The Forum in Inglewood, Calif. from Madison Square Garden for $400 million in cash. The deal is expected to close next quarter (sometime between April-June).
Clippers owner Steve Ballmer plans to keep The Forum operating as a music venue and extend job offers to those who currently work for The Forum.
Ballmer plans to build a new arena that would be just for the Clippers, compared to the past 21 years where they’ve shared Staples Center in Los Angeles with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Once the Clippers complete their own stadium, they wouldn’t have to feel like the third wheel with the Lakers and NHL’s Los Angeles Kings at Staples Center.
While the Clippers can’t make the Laker’s dominance on Los Angeles, like the Brooklyn Nets having their own arena in Brooklyn, building a new arena in Inglewood, would set the Clippers up to at least challenge their rival.
